About Burgaw Area Chamber of Commerce
The Burgaw Area Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization of businesses and professionals who share a common goal of improving the local business climate. The goal is achieved through business advocacy, business assistance and business and community promotion. The area's economic well being is related directly to the caliber of work that is done by the Burgaw Chamber.
There are two primary functions of a Chamber of Commerce:
(1) It acts as a spokesman for the business and professional community and translates into action the group thinking of its members and (2) It renders specific services of a type that can be most effectively rendered by a community organization both to its members and to the community as a whole.

Objectives of the Burgaw Area Chamber of Commerce
- To promote a better understanding of the nation's private enterprise system.
- To coordinate the efforts of commerce, industry and the professions in maintaining and strengthening a sound and healthy business climate in the Burgaw area.
- To sponsor programs of work and stimulate activities that will provide full development and employment of our human and economic resources.
- To provide creative business leadership and effective coordination of all interested parties in solving community problems and initiating constructive community involvement.
- To promote the advantages and assets of our community within the area, within the state, and throughout the world.
How the Burgaw Area Chamber of Commerce operates
Board of Directors – The Board of Directors is the policy making body of the Burgaw Chamber. The board consists of up to 14 members. Its members represent the business and professional leadership of the community. They are elected every two years. Additional directors may be appointed by the Executive Director for specific areas as deemed necessary by the board of directors. The board of directors meets monthly on the second Thursday.
Executive Committee – The Executive Committee consists of the Executive Director, President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. It exercises the powers of the board between board meetings.
Executive Director – The Executive Director of the Burgaw Chamber is responsible for the day to day decisions necessary to ensure proper functioning of the chamber and for operating within approved Chamber policy, business, financial plans and budget.
Committees - A Committee system is the most effective means of harnessing energies and abilities of volunteer workers. Committees are responsible to the board of directors and report to their individual committee chair.
